Jennifer Birch
Jennifer Birch, RN, MSN, ACNP-BC is our Nurse Practitioner. Jennifer’s core philosophy is to provide individualized care with a focus on the patient’s diagnosis and condition. This also involves integrating the patient and family in understanding the impact of illness on a patient’s life as well as on the lives of their family and friends. Jennifer collaborates directly with Dr. Fineman and other health professionals as well as directly assisting in the operating room. She diagnoses and treats acute and chronic neurological illnesses with a focus on disorders of the neurological system and a specialty with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and tremor.
Jennifer’s evaluation of the movement disorder patient begins with their initial consultation and discussions about their diagnosis. She can then discuss treatment options such as medication or surgery, including placement of Deep Brain Stimulators, one of the latest advances for the treatment of movement disorders. She then coordinates pre-operative testing, assists with surgical placement of the deep brain stimulator, and provides post-operative adjustment of the stimulator to optimize treatment. She also follows many patients while overseeing and participating in local movement disorder support groups. She is also the clinical research coordinator for deep brain stimulation clinical trials.
Jennifer Birch, RN, ACNP-BC completed her training as a Nurse Practitioner with an emphasis in the neurosciences from University of California at Los Angeles. She has greater than ten years experience as a Registered Nurse at USC University Hospital in the intensive care unit, seizure monitoring unit, and telemetry units prior to completing her advance care nursing training.
