What is the purpose of the Forums?
The purpose of the DBS-STN.org Forum is to allow for the free exchange of information, concerns, and questions among the DBS-STN community. By discussing issues facing DBS-STN patients, we all learn. Questions are answered by a neurologist, a nurse practioner, patients, and caregivers. The information obtained from this Forum does not replace consultation with a physician. All medical information, procedures, drug doses, indications, and contraindications should be discussed with your personal physician.

What is caching and how does it affect what I may see in the forums?
When you make a post on these forums, your message is sent to our moderator who reads the message and then releases it to the forum boards.
There are circumstances when you may not "see" your post right away. One reason is that the moderator has not yet released it. Another has nothing to do with DBS-STN.org, but rather something called "web page caching."
All Web Browsers have the ability to "cache" pages. The term "cache" means "to save," and your web browser may save frequently accessed web pages to your hard drive. When you try to view such a page, your web browser will not go online to view the page. Instead, it will load it from your computer's hard drive. This speeds up the loading of pages. The problem with caching is if a web page is frequently changing. Then your browser may display an older version of the page from the file cache. To fix this, try clicking the reload button a couple times. If that doesn't work, go into your web browser's settings files and turn off file caching. This guarantees that you are always loading the latest versions of any web page you are viewing. Since every browser is different, you will need to consult your browser's help area under "page caching" or "file caching" for an explanation of how this is done.
Some Internet Service Providers also cache web pages on their servers. You have no control over this happening. However, if you turned off your file caching on your web browser, and you're still having problems with your posts not appearing, please contact the technical support at your IPS and ask them if they are caching web pages on their servers. They may be able to turn it off for you. Also, if you are at WORK, then your EMPLOYER may be caching web pages on a PROXY server. Please contact the appropriate technical support person where you work for assistance.
A Moderated forum allows DBS-SNT.org to exercise some control over the content of the fourm.
